Profile

Name: Dr Darren Pearce-Lazard
About:

Darren was a full-time research officer on the MiGen Project which is building a system to help 11-14-year-old children with their understanding of mathematical generalisation:
Profile data from 2010:
"I am responsible for researching and developing the overall system architecture, representations for teachers and support for collaboration. Previously I worked with Professor Rose Luckin at the lab as a Research Officer in Learner-Centred Educational Technology. My research followed on from Riddles, a University of Sussex project which developed novel software to improve the language comprehension skills of 7-11-year-old children.

"In general, I am interested in the ways in which it is possible to collaborate on a task (in the most general sense of both 'collaborate' and 'task'). I am also interested in task state-space navigation, especially in combination with sophisticated approaches to collaboration.

"Currently, I am a Visiting Research Fellow at the Ideas Lab at the University of Sussex. I also†recently (finally!) finished†my DPhil in Natural Language Processing in Informatics (at Sussex). It is entitled 'Collocation Extraction: A Generic Substitution-Based Approach'.
