Before joining the Institute of Education in London, she was a Teaching Fellow at the University of Stirling in Scotland.† There she taught in the Education and Film, Media and Journalism Departments and completed a PhD in the socio-political origins and development of media education in Scotland.† She also taught media and cultural policy in the Theatre, Film and Television Department at the University of Glasgow.
Her research interests include: the social, political and cultural contexts constituting relations between media and education institutions in the UK; the historiography of media in education; media, education and learning; curriculum change and teacher identity; media culture and national identity. m.powell@ioe.ac.uk0207 763 2157
