About:![]() |
Katerina is a research fellow on the TAKTEEN and NEXT-TELL projects. The TAKTEEN project is developing learner-centred technology to support teenagers learn about their personal energy use and translate knowledge about energy from the classroom to their personal contexts. The NEXT-TELL project is supporting teachers in assessing student learning through evidence-based methods. Her research is interdisciplinary, situated between Psychology, Education, Human Computer Interaction, and Artificial Intelligence. She's primarily interested in the design and development of learning experiences to support understanding of socio-scientific issues, including the application of existing and design of new technological tools. Her research into the learning process has focused on the areas of epistemic cognition and metacognition, affect and motivation, and social communication. She received her DPhil in Educational Technology in 2009 and MSc in Human Centred Computer Systems in 2004 from the University of Sussex. She completed a BSc in Psychology and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Nottingham. She has previously worked at the Memory Lab at Carnegie Mellon University, and the Human Centred Research Group at the University of Sussex. Previous projects include ECHOES II, which developed a technology enhanced learning environment for both typically developing children and children with Asperger Syndrome at Key Stage 1 (ages 5-7) to explore and improve social interaction and collaboration skills. |
