Name: Dr Niall Winters
About: Dr. Niall Winters is a Senior Lecturer in Learning Technologies for Development at the†London Knowledge Lab,Institute of Education,†University of London. He works primarily in the field of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D), where his main research interest is in the participatory design of mobile applications and activties for education in developing regions. The current focus of this work is the development of mobile social media for supporting the training of healthcare professionals. He was previously a†RCUK Academic Fellow†at the LKL.

Niall holds a PhD in†Computer Science†(2002) from the University of Dublin,†Trinity College†and a BSc (D.Hons) in Computer Science and Experimental Physics (1997) from the†National University of Ireland, Maynooth. His†PhD†addressed how to store and search large datasets of images. The primary application was vision-based mobile robot navigation. †He† has held visiting research positions with the Everyday Learning Group at†Media Lab Europe†in Dublin, and the†Computer Vision Lab†at†Instituto Superior Tecnico†in Lisbon.
