At this free event on 25th January 2013 , attendees will receive a copy of the report 'What the Research Says about iPads in the classroom'. They will hear talks from industry, academics, policy makers and practitioners, see research prototypes, learn about current research projects and findings and meet other like-minded people. They will also be able to shape the structure and content of future events in this series. A full program will be available on the London Knowledge Lab website

This project, directed in the LKL by Professors Richard Noss and Celia Hoyles, forms part of a proposal agreed by the Li Ka Shing Foundation to fund SRI International to investigate and scale the use of their proven effective mathematics materials that exploit the innovative use of digital technology for learning mathematics across several mathematical units. LKL will be working with SRI International to deliver this programme in the UK, and is responsible for providing local expertise in the modification, implementation, research and evaluation of the mathematics materials and software platform.

Three LKL projects were successful in receiving funding from the IOE's Next Generation Initiative Fund to support innovation and knowledge
transfer activities to take place 2012/13 to 2014/15. The scheme is
supported by the IOE's Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF)
allocation from HEFCE.

Education Hackday for 50 students from 5 schools |

The London Knowledge Lab is holding a youth Education Hackday. This is a 2-day event on November 16th and 17th 2012 where 50 students from 5 schools from across South East of England and London will come and build the future of their education at the Lab in London. The 17th November is also the day of London Festival of Education and the LKL will be presenting the results from the Hack Day at the London Festival, along with Michael Gove. The LKL will also be open to interested members of the public on 17th offering a range of hands-on activities in conjunction with TechHeads. Students will be using digital tools and techniques like video making, web/mobile app development and hardware hacking, and will build prototypes of ideas, services and products they think will demonstrate creative and innovative changes to help reshape 21st century education.

Prof Rose Luckin contributes to a report by the Economist Intelligence Unit report on Superfast Britain? Myths and realities about the UK’s broadband future released on 30 October The Economist selected Education as a key area of interest and in this balanced report they conclude that "superfast broadband can be used to support educational transformation, but will not bring it about on its own". This is a key point - it is not the existence of super fast or super fat broadband alone that makes the difference, what matters are the possibilities afforded when such infrastructure is combined with human enterprise and a landscape of consumerized technology in which almost everyone has a potentially sophisticated learning device in their hands or homes: TV, phone, or tablet.
