TQEF Projects

Overview
The Teaching and Quality Enhancement Fund projects for the academic year 2005/2006 are grounded on the Institute of Educationís (IoE) Learning and Teaching Strategy with the goal to enhance the quality of teaching and to support flexible teaching strategies. The projects aim to provide an overview of current practice in the integration and use of learning technologies in Higher Education for the generation of practical tools and resources to support a faster and more coherent integration of technology into teaching and learning activities at the IoE.

The TQEF activities are based on four projects:

1.†Pedagogical Templates (Final Report)
The goal of the first project is to create descriptive models for the integration of technology into teaching and learning activities. These models will provide templates with which academic staff can overview some of the most common ways to integrate technology and understand the pedagogical decisions behind each option.
2.†Staff Development (Final Report)
The goal of the second project is to develop staff development materials and activities for the integration of technology into learning and teaching. Based on an e-learning training needs analysis, a set of minimal manuals will be produced as basic support materials, whereas more sophisticated needs will be addressed by staff development workshops.
3.†Evaluation Tools
The goal of the third project is to develop evaluation tools for staff to use within their online and mixed mode provision. This will involve a reference resource of existing evaluation practices and the production of a set of evaluation guidelines as a flexible package for different scenarios.
4.†Case Studies (Final Version)
The goal of the fourth project is to identify effective practice in the use of technology in learning and teaching at the IoE and showcase contextualized descriptions of this practice in a case study format. The case studies will be published on a showcase website, displaying the unique characteristics of each course or module, including profiles that address in particular the levels and nature of the use of technology.

General Issues
All projects will consider international and cultural needs as well as issues related to equal opportunities and disabilities. These will be tied into all research and development efforts, along with measures to support the widening participation agenda.
