Learning Technologies Unit

About

The Learning Technologies Unit brings together information about, and support for, the use of flexible and distance learning technologies across the Institute of Education (IoE).

Remit

In collaboration with Information Services at the IoE, the Learning Technologies Unit seeks to:

  • co-ordinate and advise on the incorporation of learning technologies within courses throughout the IoE,
  • encourage the use of learning technologies in courses, and
  • organise staff development activities in the area of learning technologies.

Tasks

The Learning Technologies Unit is involved in four main areas of work:

  1. Development of Processes and Procedures:
Across the Institute, the LTU is helping to streamline the processes involved in moving towards flexible provision, including policies and evaluation strategies.
  2. Consultancies:
The LTU works with individuals or small teams to help introduce ICT into courses. This involves planning, design and evaluation as well as identifying funding opportunities.
  3. Staff Development:
The LTU offers a range of staff development opportunities to support the use of technology for learning and teaching. This includes training workshops, seminars and taster sessions.
  4. Resource Development:
The LTU develops a set of resources to support the development and delivery of technology-facilitated courses, including checklists, planning tools, and design templates.
