The Open Day 2008 was on the 6 June and we were delighted to see over 80 visitors attending and catching up with the LKL's projects and researchers. The opening speech was given by the Rt. Hon Charles Clarke MP, who as a long time champion of technology enhanced learning took the opportunity to tour and comment on various projects before his speech. One of Charles Clarke's main points was that academic research needs to be better integrated with more industrial partners, something the LKL was more than adequately able to demonstrate.

The themes of the Open Day this year were:

• Mainstreaming research: How the lessons from research can be taken and applied in education policy and teaching practice.
• Crossing divides:  Personal experiences of research, the good, the bad and the ugly from the challenges of interdisciplinarity.
• Making things:  Projects at the LKL which involve building things as well as software.

Our many thanks go to all staff for their efforts putting together their presentations and especially to Megan Craig, Kath Blackshaw, Gyta Nicola and Jess Stachyra for all the organisation and making it a success.
