richard_celia_and_stefan_dodunekov.pngBorovets (near Sofia), Bulgaria 8 April, 2011: Celia Hoyles and Richard Noss, both Professors of Mathematics Education at the London Knowledge Lab, Institute of Education, have been individually awarded one of the highest honours of the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians.

Bulgaria leads the world in uniting mathematicians, mathematics education researchers and teachers in the effort to help children learn mathematics. Nominated jointly by the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Academy of Sciences and the Faculty of Mathematics Education at the University of Sofia, Celia and Richard were each awarded a medal and the title of Foreign Fellow of the UBM in recognition of their "outstanding contributions to international achievement in the area of mathematics education and technology".

The ceremony took place at the 40th. Conference of the UBM, and the medals were awarded by the president of the UBM, Academician Professor Stefan Dodunekov.
