"Videogames and Art" provides the first comprehensive introduction to the new and exciting field of videogame art, where artists appropriate the technology or iconography of videogames for use in their work.

The book features interviews with leading videogame artists including Brody Condon, Jodi, Julian Oliver and others. Other contributors discuss insights gained from their own artistic practice, or give in-depth analyses of specialist areas such as machinima and fan-art. An extended introduction by the editors provides a historical and critical overview of the field as a whole.

The event is hosted by the Centre for the Study of Children, Youth and Media at the London Knowledge Lab, in conjunction with the London Games Research Group, the London Games Fringe and the London Games Festival. It is convened by Dr. Andrew Burn (who also contributed to the book), and will feature presentations and work by artists including Paul B Davis (Beige), John Paul Bichard and S.E. Barnet as well as respected games designer and lecturer, Ernest Adams.

The book and the launch will be of interest to everyone with an interest in alternative videogames, videogame culture and the academic study of videogames, as well as anyone wishing to stay abreast of new movements in contemporary digital art.

"Videogames and Art" is edited by Andy Clarke and Grethe Mitchell. It is published in the UK by Intellect Books, in the USA by the University of Chicago Press, and will be available to buy at the launch.
