Invitation for LKL's fifth birthday party

With these words, Seymour Papert opened the LKL five years ago. He was pointing to our choice of name for the newly-created lab, and the relative scarcity of work that researched how digital technologies could transform not only how learning could evolve, but what could be learned.

In the years since 2004, there has been some recognition of this imbalance, and LKL has played its part in this evolution - contributing dozens of projects, many new colleagues and students, and a wide range of interdisciplinary studies spanning the learning sciences and computer science. What, then, are the challenges for the next five years, and how can we address them?

We would like to invite you to help us answer this question, to hear a little about our recent work, our plans for the future, and - on the occasion of our fifth birthday, drink to the health of the lab, and to the field of technology-enhanced learning research.
