Abstract: Many students can be alienated from mathematics due to the way it is presented in traditional learning materials. Media consumption by young people has changed radically even in the last five years and mathematics needs to match this. Mangahigh.com's team of expert maths teachers and video games designers is part of a movement pioneering an inclusive approach to learning mathematics that is in line with young people's expectations. This session will describe the creative process of making maths games that young people actually want to play and will present the case for games-based learning.†

Bio: Dr Richard Lissaman works with Mathematics in Education and Industry and is the Further Mathematics Support Programme - student support leader. Guest appearances are expected from Toby Rowland CEO and founder of Mangahigh and to be confirmed Marcus du Sautoy OBE Professor of mathematics, University of Oxford and chairman of Mangahigh board of advisors.
