thumb-events_04.pngDr Ohashi will be talking about his previous research projects, which focused on designing playable and enjoyable learning environments in public service buildings, such as a zoo and an aquarium.
In addition to this, he will be talking about the current situation of Japan's media education.

Dr Ohashi has experience of projects in Japan and Finland, which is of considerable interest to staff at the London Knowledge Lab, based around the use of virtual worlds and portable media in informal sites of learning. During his month's stay, he will present his experience of these projects at a seminar at the LKL, and hold meetings with particular staff whose research interests are closest to his research. He will also conduct new research, in particular a survey of a sample of UK primary teachers' perceptions of the uses of ICT in primary schools, in order to make a comparison with samples already surveyed in Japan and Finland.

Media Education in Japan" research 2009-Present Project
Comparative research on media education between Finland and Japan.
The website http://mediaedu.jimdo.com/ established in January 2010 provides latest news, research result, and resourceful information to readers worldwide. The articles are read in 38 countries, including Finland, Japan, and US.

ZOO PROJECT 2007-2009
The project aimed at designing user-oriented learning environment in a zoo, by adopting emerging information technology. This project was evaluated by Ministry of Education (won Special Award in the 7th National Internet Education Contest), won Good Design Award 2007 and Kids Design Award 2008. http://being.inokashira-zoo.jp

Sound Block Project 2002-2005
Sound Block was invented to help children to easily compose music, communicating with other users through play. Users can enjoy the variation of sounds only by stacking the blocks. This project won the Sponsor Company Award in "Sound Sculpture Contest" in 2003.

Thinking and Plaything Exhibition 2003
This exhibition forecasted future kids-oriented environment by proposing newly designed nine toys, which stimulate and activate thinking. The "Thinking and Plaything Exhibition" was held in Keio SFC Open Research Forum, in Roppongi Hills (Tokyo), November 20th-21st 2003. More than 1,000 people visited. I took charge of a stage effect, management of the exhibition, and demonstrated Sound Block.

"@home exhibition" 2001-2002
This project aimed at proposing future-minded network based communication media in future home environment, before "ubiquitous" has become common. The exhibition was held at the center of Tokyo, Franc franc furniture shop Harajuku (Tokyo), in Nov 31 - Dec 12 in 2001.
