Lifelong Learning for all: e-learning from concept to practice Print

This conference will explore the role of distributed e-learning through four main themes:

  • Facilitating progression
  • Supporting collaborative teaching and sharing of resources across institutions
  • Supporting the independent lifelong learner
  • The role of community in distributed learning

The conference will discuss key themes in e-learning within a lifelong learning context and disseminate the findings of seven JISC distributed e-learning pilot projects covering the South of England. It will provide workshops and discussion sessions focusing on cutting edge e-learning developments linked with critical issues relating to the practice of lifelong learning.

The keynote address will be given by Dr Chris Yapp (Head of Public Sector Innovation, Microsoft) an international specialist in lifelong learning and will feature other experts addressing the particular conference themes.

The conference will be of particular interest to: practitioners, learning and teaching co-ordinators, widening participation co-ordinators, e-learning coordinators, leaders and managers in adult, further and higher education, researchers, and staff developers with an interest in both e-learning and lifelong learning.

The conference will be held on 5th June 2006 at the Brunei Gallery: School for Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and is supported by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC).

Presentations and workshop sessions will focus upon a range of approaches in Further and Higher Education to the following:

  • learning portals
  • e-portfolios
  • encouraging wider participation for non-traditional learners
  • learning design and lifelong learning activities
  • innovative e-learning packages
  • sharing services and repurposing resources across institutions
  • personal development planning systems
  • interoperability and the role of the repository
  • sustainability
