LKL's Yishay Mor and Tim Neumann are adding the fifth E to the United Nations Girls' Education Initiative E4 Conference.
And you can be a part of it!

E4 Conference

The E4 Conference, Engendering Empowerment: Education and Equality, is co-organised by the United Nations Girls' Education Initiative and a team from the Institute of Education, University of London, headed by Professor Elaine Unterhalter, who draws on LKL expertise to deliver an engaging conference that reaches out to wider audiences, including the general public. The conference is part of a world-wide mobilisation of partnerships to realise the rights of girls and women to education and training and address the gender inequalities that prevent initiatives from reaching their full potential to transform societies.

LKL's Yishay Mor and Tim Neumann played a lead role in the development of a concept to make best use of current web technologies to engage a wide audience, and this concept is currently being realised. The E4 Conference consist of two parts:

  1. E-Conference: web discussions for everybody
    e4e
, the E4 e-Conference runs over five weeks from 12th April to 14th May.
Every week, a keynote presentation is webcast in real time and recorded via Elluminate. In this keynote, two moderators present the topic of the week and introduce participants to peer-reviewed discussion papers. Comments are then invited in an online forum, which is open to all and connects to social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.
  2. D-Conference: face-to-face meeting by invitation only
The E4 D-Conference runs from 17th to 20th May in Dakar, Senegal.
The LKL team will use the same technology to report live from Dakar, in real time and via blogs, social networks and video. This event attracts high-profile participants, including the new UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake, and dignitaries from a range of countries.

The LKL team has developed the complete E4 website and is responsible for everything related to web publishing from the call for papers to bi-langual content maintenance. In addition, Yishay manages social networking, whereas Tim produces the webcasts. Both are currently preparing for their trip to Dakar.
