With co-authors Brian Butterworth (UCL) and Sashank Varma (Minnesota), the paper summarises the principal research findings on dyscalculia, together with data on the cost to society of the failure to support these learners with specialised intervention. LKL work, originally funded by Becta, has now attracted investment funding to turn adaptive game-like programs into smart-phone apps, designed to help dyscalculic learners of all ages develop their number sense. The paper shows details of the program contributed by LKL to this paper, and provides a reference to the site where it can be found from†http://www.number-sense.co.uk/numberbonds/ . The project site itself, has links to 3 further teaching programs of this kind on†http://low-numeracy.ning.com/. More information at http://www.sciencemag.org/content/332/6033/104 |
