The Learning Technologies Unit was established to facilitate the technology-based provision of flexible learning to all students at the Institute of Education. It seeks to assist staff in the development of technology-mediated learning and teaching materials.

In collaboration with IT Services, the Learning Technologies Unit seeks to:
- Co-ordinate and advise on the incorporation of learning technologies within courses throughout the Institute of Education
- Encourage the use of learning technologies in courses
- Organise staff development activities in the area of learning technologies
