Overview

The rapid growth of ICT to support learning in the education sector has led to a need for school ICT staff to have a clear command of high-level management skills. The MA in ICT in Education is offering a module in Strategic Management of ICT in Secondary Schools to help students develop these skills. This module is aimed at ICT coordinators, SMT with whole school ICT management responsibility and educational ICT staff who wish to prepare for an advisory or consultancy role.

The module seeks to develop a strategic management perspective in each of the key areas on which effective deployment of ICT is based. Participants will be supported in exploring how the elements of an effective ICT strategy can be developed, implemented and monitored. The use of case studies, simulations and school-based activities will enable participants to gain a firm grasp of key management skills in the context of ICT. The delivery method for the module acknowledges the status of participants as skilled educators and seeks to provide a framework in which the participants? collective knowledge and experience can be developed to mutual advantage. The module is workshop based and sessions involve active participation in a range of tasks which will seek to integrate theory and practice. The module involves 3 days at the Institute of Education, with a web-based groups discussion forum and a set of on-line study resources.
