Conference on QA and QE

By m.jara | June 28, 2008

A conference on Quality Assurance and Quality Enhancement Relationships and Perspectives was organised by HEFCE, HEA and QAA in Nottingham last 11 June, where the findings of a joint project exploring how institutions in England and Northern Ireland viewed quality assurance (QA), quality enhancement (QE) and the nature of the links between them was presented.

The study presents the diverse ways in which ‘quality enhancement’ is conceptualised, led, managed and supported in 64 different HEIs.

The report of this study and the presentations at the conference can be found in the HEA website:

HEA Research Observatory (TEL strand)

By h.mellar | May 24, 2008

The HEA Research Observatory is concerned with drawing together evidence about important topics and presenting it in a way that others can use. The Observatory is presently carrying out a small pilot to explore different ways in which this could be done by communities of researchers in a collaborative way.

There is a page on the Observatory wiki relating to QA/QE http://research-observatory.pbwiki.com/Quality+Assurance+and+Quality+Enhancement+in+e-Learning

This uses a standard template that Martin Oliver at the Observatory has developed, but we can modify that as we wish, its just a guide. A few of us have made a start on some aspects of the page, though other bits still simply have ‘placeholder’ text there - do feel free to delete, edit, revise, start again ….

I’m afraid you will need to create a new account to use the wiki - there’s a registration page here:

https://my.pbwiki.com/?p=create

What you do then is associate this wiki with your account (paste “research- observatory.pbwiki.com” in the box on the right!) and then give an invite key (he@cademy).

Rather laborious, but this is only a pilot, and if it all works then the final system will be (hopefully) much easier to use.

Inaugural Meeting Special Interest Group - Reading University 9 May 2008

By h.mellar | May 17, 2008

Thirty people attended a workshop in the iLab at Reading University to define, plan and launch a Special Interest Group (SIG) in the area of QA-QE in e-learning, with a particular focus on moving from a QA to QE agenda.

The group established a core group to carry forward tasks for the SIG, and a group to take responsibility for the communication strategy. First steps in the communication strategy will be to establish a JISC mail list, a web-site for the SIG, and to contribute to a section on QA/QE on the HEA e-learning observatoy Wiki.
